MaxLinear is collapsing cable and fiber gateway development onto one codebase. The Topaz PON home gateway SoC shares its hardware and software foundation with the Puma 9 DOCSIS platform, extending reuse across cable, fiber, Ethernet, and fixed wireless products. The constraint being removed is the parallel firmware and validation branch created every time an operator changes the WAN interface.
Topaz integrates fiber access, packet processing, AI acceleration, security, and power management on one chip. It supports DDR5, 25G and 50G connectivity, Wi-Fi 8 gateway workloads, hardware-assisted post-quantum cryptography, and open software through prplWare and RDK. OEMs can preserve routing, traffic management, security, and service code while changing the access technology or product tier.
Select OEMs are already designing gateways with Topaz. Product teams should price the validation and support savings from deleting one platform branch, not just the bill of materials. Gateway silicon that binds a software stack to one access medium will lose operators with mixed cable, fiber, and wireless footprints.
