NI Rebuilds SystemLink as an API-First Control Plane for Test Operations

The next SystemLink release treats test assets, data, and analysis as programmable infrastructure instead of lab-side administration.

API-first test operations reduce the coordination cost between benches, data pipelines, and engineering decisions while moving analysis closer to continuous validation.

NI's September 17 SystemLink release reframes test operations as programmable infrastructure. The platform adds API-first access, a self-service Python environment, more than 150 analysis steps, enterprise system connectors, and remote execution across distributed test systems. The constraint is the custom glue code and lab scheduling that separates a test result from an engineering decision.

NI reports up to 95% less time spent on test-data analysis and more than 2x throughput from coordinating test cells and devices. The exact gains will depend on how fragmented the starting point is, but the architecture is the signal. Teams can expose assets and results through APIs, run Python analysis where the data lands, and connect PLM, ERP, manufacturing, and test systems without turning every integration into a bespoke desktop application.

Test organizations should put one high-volume failure-analysis workflow on the new stack and count manual transfers, queue time, and repeated tests. The cost is integration work and cleaning up identifiers across systems. Labs that keep test data trapped in local files will lose decision speed to teams that operate benches as a shared compute and data plane.
