WayriCAD Brings Circuit Board Analysis to the Command Line

A KiCad analysis package now exposes all 23 tools through scripts, making board checks repeatable outside the editor.

Thesis connection

Circuit board checks can run from scripts and produce reviewable reports instead of depending on an engineer clicking through the editor.

WayriCAD 3.6.25 exposes all 23 of its KiCad tools through a command-line interface (CLI), including reviewed job sets for repeatable runs. The package covers circuit board bills of materials, mechanical checks, copper analysis, and first-pass power and signal checks. Engineers can still inspect results in KiCad, but the same operation can now run from a script and produce Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) or JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) reports.

The release also adds shared-return calculations for power paths, multiple physical source and load pads, and local crosstalk screening for selected trace pairs. Its documentation is unusually direct about the limits: the power model assumes direct current and fixed conditions, while the signal check covers supported straight sections rather than predicting a whole communication channel. Those boundaries make the command-line output useful because a reviewer can see which geometry was modeled and which was omitted.

A board team could start by running one power check and one mechanical check on every reviewed design revision, then storing the reports beside the design files. That won't replace laboratory measurements or KiCad's design-rule check, but it will catch changes that currently depend on someone remembering which editor dialogs to open.
